Recommended Safe Practices

If you receive an email with an attachment that did not come from a friend or somebody that you know - delete it.

Some viruses make the email look like it came from a friend, when it actually was sent from somebody else's computer - if in doubt, call or email your friend to verify that it did indeed come from their computer.
Don't be afraid to tell your friends or co-workers that you are not interested in receiving forwarded, bulk-emailed jokes and chain-letters.

The tragic widow, Mrs Epiphany Boggs does not exist. You will never make millions of dollars, by helping someone store their money. You will always lose.

Your bank, eBay, paypal, Amazon, etc. will not send an unsolicited email telling you that you need to provide your account number, PIN, or password in email or at their web site. Even if the email or web page says there is a problem with your account it is a hoax.

Stay Updated

Minimize the risks associated with receiving infected files by making sure you have the most current patches that address security holes in your computer's operating system and applications. As software vendors discover vulnerabilities in their applications, they make fixes available in the form of patches or service packs.
Prevent intruders from entering, controlling, and accessing your data by regularly performing a spyware sweep to scan and remove malicious software.
